About

OUR STORY

Aeolus Labs was founded in 2013 to continue the work that was previously done by OTECH Engineering in providing high quality anemometer calibrations for the renewable energy industry. When John Obermeier retired and closed the doors of OTECH Engineering, Aeolus Labs brought the newest and most capable of OTECH’s wind tunnels to our new lab in Bristol, Vermont. Along with the equipment, Aeolus Labs benefited greatly from the extensive knowledge and experience developed by John Obermeier over his many years in the industry.

OUR TEAM

David Blittersdorf – Managing Member

David is a mechanical engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry, with a particular focus on wind energy. He founded wind-measurement technology firm NRG Systems in 1982, and built the company into a global resource for wind measurement equipment.  In 2004, David stepped down as CEO of NRG to launch AllEarth Renewables, a business dedicated to the development and manufacture of grid-connected renewable energy systems. AllEarth Renewables’ early years focused on the successful development of the Earth Turbine, a 2.5 kW direct-drive turbine.  The company currently manufactures solar tracking systems, and its AllSun Trackers incorporate anemometers to respond to high winds.  In 2012, David led a Vermont partnership in building Georgia Mountain Community Wind, a 10 MW wind farm located in northwestern Vermont. David served as treasurer of the American Wind Energy Association for 16 years until the spring of 2010. He is a founding member of the Distributed Wind Energy Association, and a past board member of the Small Wind Certification Council.

Chris Johnson – Lab Manager and Quality Manager

Chris brings an undergraduate specialty in fluid mechanics (BSME, Cornell University) along with 15+ years of experience in a variety of industries including deep sea pipeline design and offshore renewable energy systems, high performance sailboat mast design and both small wind turbine and solar tracker design. Chris was primarily responsible for the development and ongoing management of the Aeolus Labs Quality Management Systems. He is also responsible for the day to day operation of the lab as well as providing technical expertise for wind tunnel operations and measurement uncertainty. Chris is also employed as a Mechanical Design Engineer at AllEarth Renewables.
